By The Membership Officer
kiaOra HOG Auckland Chapter whanau, welcome to the Midweek Newsletter
Note from the MO
Last Saturday's North ride, unfortunately, turned into a Make Your Own Ride due to the RC not being able to take the ride because of unforeseen circumstances. As some of you know, the Hard Arse did not end well with a few members sustaining belt damage from loose chip seal at Rangiriri, totally out of the blue and unavoidable for the RC at the time.
The Head Road Captain emailed all RCs to ask if anyone could take the ride, however, no one was available to do so. 5 members did turn up for the Make Your Own Ride but for whatever reason, they decided to go their separate ways.
On occasion, the RC who is allocated to a ride event is sometimes not able to take the ride and will call on the HRC to find a replacement RC. We as a club strive to bring the best possible enjoyment to your subscription. This, of course, is riding your Harley Davidson with your HOG mates and enjoying their camaraderie.
We are short of road captains due to recent retirements. If you want to become more involved with your club and you have what it takes to become a road captain, it's your time to step up and help, please contact the Head Road Captain.

We recently improved our Harley VIN Decoder.
Decoding VIN numbers is the least it does. It also gives you access to all the OEM diagrams and list of parts for your model and if you are just after the servicing parts, it gives you all the links to consumable items like oil filters, air filters, brake pads, rotors, stators etc.
Our motivation was simple: create a tool that we, as Harley riders, would find genuinely useful, quick to use and clear, with information about superseded parts, and obsolete parts and cross-reference parts where we have that info.
If the bike has been modified, don't guess at what it is, just pump the VIN into our system.

Laid Back Coffee Cruise Review from RC Bugsy
Hi there, Laid Back Coffee Cruise Sun 17 Mar 2024 Despite being a bit chillier, we had another good turnout with 22 bikes, 1 trike and 26 people heading south from Columbus Coffee, Ellerslie to wend our way eventually to the Melba Cafe, Karaka. We went off at Drury, winding our way to Paerata, with the plan being to carry on towards Glenbrook, then through Kingseat and on to Karaka. An unplanned roadworks detour saw us going via Patumahoe, which everyone took in their stride. Thank you to the cafe for looking after us well with our extra numbers. Also, thanks to Joe 90 TEC and Nev in the middle of the ride and to the corner markers, I appreciated the help. Thanks also to all who attended this relaxed ride. A good morning, good company and nice food. Hopefully, everyone got home before the showers.
We had a couple of late arrivals who missed the briefing. A reminder for all riders to turn up early enough for the briefing. This also allows for confirmed numbers to be given to the venue.

More from Bugsy and Joe
Recently Joe and I were on our way back from riding in the South Island and we decided to make a stop at the yet-to-be-opened Capital Coast Harley-Davidson in Wellington, owned by the Team at East Coast H-D.
Although we missed Andrew and Malcolm, the team made us very welcome and showed us around. We appreciated them taking the time from their busy day racing to get the store open.
The workshop is already up and running with two technicians, one from Motomart and the other with many years of experience from the old Wellington Motorcycles.
We wish them all the best with the new store and hope to stop in next time we are down that way. The opening is now planned for 6 April 2024.

The Good in the Hood program at Z Sylvia Park. If anyone is using this station and felt so inclined could they select Auckland Whanau Special Needs Support Group, another charity that Trevor and Joy from MDN are part of.
MDA and MDN Explained
As a registered charity, we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations from the general public, trusts and other businesses/organisations to provide specialist information and practical support to individuals and whanau with lived experience of rare neuromuscular conditions. The Auckland Harley Owners’ group have been a huge support to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDN) for many years.
We have three regional branches based throughout the country that are supported by the National Office based in Auckland, one of those branches been MDN and we cover the area from Kaitaia to Taupo.
Our logo is a person shown in the form of DNA. This double helix represents the genetic component to many of our conditions and reflects our strong commitment to families and the acknowledgement of whakapapa or family histories, which are woven through the stories of our members. We believe in strengthening and supporting both individuals with neuromuscular conditions, their whanau and their communities of support.
A lot of our support we give to members is based on an outreach service via our Fieldworkers, information on the rare conditions we cover and also events that members can attend and network with others travelling the same journey as themselves.
The Auckland Harley Owners Group have been long-time supporters of MDN and attend many of our events and get involved with our branch.

So..What's Your Membership Officer "up to bro"
Mar 9th, D'mon and I did the Maunga Tihi 15th Anniversary Ride starting from Turangi and heading down SH1 along the Desert Rd to Waiouru then onto Ohakune for our 1st "refreshment" stop. The next stop was the Schnapps Bar on SH 4, then onto Lake Rotoiara for a history lesson about the "haka" and its origins, very informative. By late afternoon, we were back at the clubrooms after circumnavigating the Central Plateau mountains. It was great to be part of an anniversary and club event where our cousin was a founding member.
Mar 16, well I did the Patriots Poker Run but unfortunately, D'mon couldn't join me. Starting from Hobsonville RSA, heading up Old Nth Rd to Helensville, SH16 to Woodcocks Rd and up the Dome Valley to Wellsford RSA, then made our way along Whangaripo Rd to Te Arai, Mangawhai and to our 2nd stop at the 3 Furlongs at Kaiwaka. Then it was back down the Dome to Warkworth, Orewa, Silverdale and onto the Country Club at Dairy Flat for prizegiving. 110 bikes, 150 registrations, awesome day and weather.
Mar 17 Elephant Run Bush Rd, Rosedale, this looked like another great turnout with some present and past HOG members participating. I had to miss this one as we drove to Turangi to pick up the D'mon Glide.
THIS WEEKEND: Mar 22-24 The Gathering Raging Bull Taranaki, we'll be there, quite a few Hoggies are going. Friday, D'mon and I will be leaving from Z Bombay at 10 am if anyone wants to tag along.
