What’s new at NAHD?

We now have a Harley-Davidson Master Technician in the house in the form of Shaun Walsh. Shaun has worked for Mr. Ray Pratt for the past 18 years and has maintained his Master Tech status for the last 6 years.

Shaun Walsh NAHD.jpg

Shaun is now bringing his wealth of knowledge with him to our NAHD workshop opting to stay North side of the bridge to beat the challenging Auckland traffic commute.

Shaun brings with him a wide range of expertise catering from Basic Service of your motorcycle to Performance Engine work and also Dyno Tuning. Therefore you can now organize bookings with NAHD for Shaun to Dyno your motorcycle to meet your performance requirements.

Shaun Walsh NAHD.2.jpg

Shaun is a Harley-Davidson owner rider himself, he is a very passionate member of our Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Team and is responsible for maintaining all the teams racing motorcycles. That same passion for Harley-Davidson shines through to his job just like it did the first day starting work for Auckland Harley-Davidson.

Shaun brings a new vibe to our NAHD workshop. Chase is grateful to have Shaun on board and is enjoying stepping up to the challenge of being trained up to Master Technician standards.

We are looking forward to exciting times ahead at NAHD so stay tuned.

Midweek Ride Review from RC Luppo

With a change of RC for the Raglan ride, 4 bikes and Kevs Freewheeler with Stevo at TEC, we left AHD at about 10.45 am, with no sign of rain and quite a warm day throughout. Heading off down SH1 to the Hampton Downs off-ramp along Whangamarino Rd to Rangiriri and crossing the mighty Waikato River. I didn't have a planned route, so the ride developed as we went along. Turned up Glen Murray Rd and took a left onto the twistys of Rotongaro Rd. After a brief regroup, we turned right onto Hetherington Rd. I was going to go via Waikokowai to Glen Afton but decided to stay on Hetherington as I had not gone this way before to Hwy22 and was just hoping it wouldn't turn into gravel. It is a great road with more twistys and climbs as you go along with great views on both sides. We did come across new seal for about a k or 2 and after a brief regroup at Hwy22, we turned onto Ohautira Rd and headed towards SH23 and onto our lunch stop at the Orca cafe in the very sunny blue skies of Raglan. It was good to meet and have Gary Bogaart on the ride, manager of Meremere Dragstrip and racer himself. At about 2 pm and with still no sign of rain, we saddled up and headed home via Whatawhata, Ngaruawahia, Huntly, Rangiriri and back up SH1. Kev headed off to Hamilton, Steveo stopped at Rangiriri and Gary at Pokeno. Maurice departed at Otahuhu and I arrived home just before 4pm, 358 ks for Kahuna and I.

MDA and MDN Explained

MDN Logo

As a registered charity, we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations from the general public, trusts and other businesses/organisations to provide specialist information and practical support to individuals and whanau with lived experience of rare neuromuscular conditions.  The Auckland Harley Owners’ group have been a huge support to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDN) for many years.

We have three regional branches based throughout the country that are supported by the National Office based in Auckland, one of those branches been MDN and we cover the area from Kaitaia to Taupo.

Our logo is a person shown in the form of DNA.  This double helix represents the genetic component to many of our conditions and reflects our strong commitment to families and the acknowledgement of whakapapa or family histories, which are woven through the stories of our members.  We believe in strengthening and supporting both individuals with neuromuscular conditions, their whanau and their communities of support.

A lot of our support we give to members is based on an outreach service via our Fieldworkers, information on the rare conditions we cover and also events that members can attend and network with others travelling the same journey as themselves.

The Auckland Harley Owners Group have been long-time supporters of MDN and attend many of our events and get involved with our branch.
